Cooling with phase change in a cascade refrigeration cycle

Each gas has a different boiling point / condensation, thus exploiting different properties of the various gases, we can obtain very low temperatures using a number (2 or more) of compressors in cascade to achieve higher performance compared to normal cooling systems Phase Change with a single compressor.

In particular, the cooling cascade (cascade) consists in condensing a gas different from the one of the first stage, then make it evaporate at a lower temperature; obviously to function properly, the gas must have the appropriate characteristics. The concept upon which the operation of the cooling cascade is to condense a gas at the temperature of the evaporator of the first stage (about -40°C), then it subsequently evaporate at a temperature of -100°C and beyond.

Therefore the first stage can be loaded with a standard gas for low temperature type r404 or R507, while the second stage is loaded with gas at low evaporation temperature that can reach temperatures below -100°C. DimasTech Systems manufactures Cascade refrigeration cycle cooling systems customized for each application, with the technology and know-how we can get down to about -110°C.

This type of cooling is recommended for machinery or applications in the medical or scientific sectors, especially in those cases where temperatures need to be stabilized in the range of -100°C and you want to avoid the continuous consumption of liquid nitrogen. The temperature control of the evaporation unit is controlled by thermal couples and resistive circuits, regulated according to the degree of precision required by the customer.

Advantages: temperatures up to -110°C, efficiency
Disadvantages: Formation of condensation, Cost, Energy Consumption.
